“I think one of the main challenges is…creating an organizational structure that doesn’t get in the way of its staff.” (Jim Yong Kim)

OBJECTIVE

Organization design is best thought of as a project that requires the same tools, attention and as any other significant strategic business investment. Also, making organizational design changes for better business results is not just a one-time activity or decision. It is an ongoing process of gaining insight into the current state, understanding the gap relative to the desired future state as well as generating and evaluating alternative structural designs before making the transition. The decisions that are made will have a profound impact on jobs, careers, communications, decisions, power, innovation, customer focus, and results – of both organizational leaders and the team members. At Ingenium Global, we look at organization design through the precision lens of an architect who strives to achieve each of the following milestones:

1. CURRENT STRUCTURE DISCOVERY

  • Conduct Stakeholder Interviews with each business / functional leader and HR Business Partner to review current organization charts, rationale, and challenges
  • Understand list of future strategies and capabilities needed to execute business plan

2. BASELINE ANALYSIS

  • Analyze the data gathered and explore the strengths and weaknesses of the current structure against future capabilities needed
  • Identify areas where structural efficiencies can be realized

3. ALTERNATIVE DESIGNS

  • Set criteria for future design based on critical business capabilities and the current state findings
  • Leverage technology to model and compare multiple organization design scenarios based on future criteria

4. TRANSITION NAVIGATION

  • Evaluate the impact on headcount, costs, degree of change, impact to key stakeholders, etc. to choose the best option
  • Develop change management and communication plan
